This was a birding trip with Oriole Birding, led by Thailand resident Nick Upton {http://thaibirding.com/}, and Paul Roberts from Oriole Birding, the latter as it happens, a good friend of mine and fellow member of Glamorgan Bird Club in South Wales.
There were just six participants - myself and my wife Anne, Christine Andrew, Hilary Mitchell and Phillip Taylor, and Owen Neary . We flew direct to Bangkok with Thai Airways, from Heathrow departing late morning and on arrival at Bangkok the following morning we then had an internal flight to Chiang Mai in the north, where we arrived before noon and after arrival formalities, were met by Nick. The main part of the tour would be spent in the forested hills in the north, visiting the famous Doi Lang mountain ridges and several other sites. The final few days would be south of Bangkok, including a visit to the famous wader-fest location of Pak Thale salt pans, and other wetland habitats in the Petchaburi area, plus some time in the fantastic Kaeng Krachan National Park. |
